Chile close to awarding Antofagasta electric bus corridor
This release from the transport and telecommunications ministry was published using machine translation.
After the technical and economic evaluation of the bids received in the public tender for the new Antofagasta electric bus corridor, the transport and telecommunications ministry decided to award the contract to Inversiones Río Bósforo SpA, which will implement a service of 40 high-standard electric buses to improve the travel experience of the residents of the regional capital.
“We continue to make progress to implement electromobility and the Red standard throughout all of Chile. After reviewing the antecedents of the public tender for the city of Antofagasta, the bidder who obtained the highest score was chosen considering the different criteria. The 40 electric buses that will circulate on the electric corridor will be Red standard, with a capacity of 50 people and 22 seats. They will have universal accessibility, air conditioning, USB chargers, free Wi-Fi on board and a GPS system, ”said transport deputy minister José Luis Domínguez.
The electric bus corridor will operate between La Chimba Alto and the Coloso Campus of the University of Antofagasta, on a route approximately 20 kilometers long in each direction. The route, which is part of the Antofagasta Bus Service Zone, will pass through the city center.
Last August ten offers were received, of which five were declared admissible. The project also considers the construction of a Cargo Center on public land located in La Chimba Alto.
After the technical and economic evaluation, it was decided to select the operator Inversiones Río Bósforo SpA, who obtained the highest score considering items such as monthly amount of subsidy requested, collection assurance factor, incorporation of female staff, technical characteristics of the bus and energy efficiency. The public tender of the electric corridor will continue with the registration by the comptroller general of the republic and the subsequent notification of the selected operator.
After that, after 15 calendar days, the operator will sign the contract to implement the new electric corridor, which is estimated to be in operation during the first half of 2022.

Together with the Antofagasta electric corridor, the portfolio is developing a series of projects to promote electromobility in the major public transport of the regions, initiatives that include the incorporation of standard Red electric buses in Arica, Copiapó, Valparaíso, Concepción, Temuco and Puerto Montt.
