Chinese banks show interest in Mexico - report

Chinese banks are interested in coming to Mexico to offer financing for infrastructure projects, according to a report in local daily El Universal.

These banks would follow the example of the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), which has already received authorization to operate in the Mexican banking sector.

The arrival of more Chinese capital could lead to more financing for investment and SMEs, the daily quoted Moody's analyst Felipe Carvallo as saying.

ICBC will begin operations this year with a focus on project finance for infrastructure and energy projects, the report said.
