Claro Costa Rica announces launch of IPTV for 2017
Claro Costa Rica announced that its IPTV service is set to start operating in 18 months through an FTTx fiber optic network and coaxial links.
The local brand of América Móvil will offer its FTTx network, with speeds of up to 2.4Mbps, in the metropolitan area of capital San José and the biggest towns and cities in rural areas of the country, reported newspaper El Financiero.
For its IPTV service, Claro will receive TV service from an MPLS regional link from El Salvador, which would not require a frequency concession to receive satellite broadcasts from international providers.
Claro is not the only Costa Rican operator working on its fiber optic offerings. State-owned ICE also announced the rollout of its "Ultra Banda Ancha", which ranges between 10Mbps and 30Mbps, to 60 cities in the country through a mixed fiber/copper network, before being extended to another 55 locations.
