Santiago, December 1, 2022.- "Ensuring the existence, development and future projection of Codelco , in the long term, articulating the efforts of the parties around the successful implementation of the investment plan of the Corporation", is the first great objective of the Strategic Pact for Chile that was once again signed this morning by the administration, represented by the president of the board of directors, Máximo Pacheco; the executive president, André Sougarret, and the Federation of Copper Workers (FTC), through its president, Amador Pantoja.

The agreement, originally signed in 2015, seeks to guarantee the present of the main Chilean company and the world's leading copper producer, promoting the sense of responsibility and commitment of all its members, according to their functions. For this, the call is to correctly design and execute the production and expense plans of the state copper company, the achievement of safety and sustainability goals; the consolidation of a virtuous, inclusive and sustainable mining, the improvement of its competitiveness, productivity and technological innovation, and the maximization, in the long term, of its economic value and its contribution to the State.

Everything, in harmony with respect for the rights of workers and workers, and their quality of working life. For this, it promotes a culture of dialogue, based on reciprocal trust between the administration and the FTC and its base unions, and the participation of workers as key factors of good management.

The relaunch of the Strategic Pact for Chile will allow "giving all the people in our company the opportunity to participate, ask questions, get involved, propose suggestions and express concerns," Pacheco said. But for that, dialogue is not enough, he added. “To build trust, we must be transparent, ethical and consistent.

If we want to be leaders in transparency and probity, we have to encourage open conversations and learn to talk about good and bad news, be able to hold difficult conversations, show ourselves authentically, with our strengths and weaknesses. Only in this way, we will have a powerful and prepared trade union counterpart, which contributes from its role, to empower us as the main state company in Chile”.

Meanwhile, André Sougarret assured that a space for openness and fruitful dialogue will be generated. “My expectation is that from our particular roles we are capable of sharing the same purpose. I have said it: we already have a solid foundation to build it on. We are very fond of Codelco, we carry it in our hearts; We share that it is the main company in Chile and that it must remain state-owned to continue contributing to the development of the country and its people, and we want all those who inhabit this land, from north to south, to feel proud of it.

I firmly believe that together, with good labor relations, dialogue and mutual listening, we will enable the transformation that Codelco needs", emphasized the executive president.

Amador Pantoja, for his part, highlighted that the FTC is "very convinced that, with everyone's help, with unity, with the loyalty we have to our processes, the Pact invites us to make a tremendous effort in the next five years and recover our company to be, once again, the world leader in copper production, as it always has been. Believe me, we are very convinced that if we do it well, we must do well. And if things go well for us, Chile goes well”.

The massive face-to-face event, which was followed online by Codelco workers, was attended by representatives of the International Labor Organization (ILO); the Minister of Mining, Marcela Hernando; the president of the Mining and Energy Commission of the Senate, Loreto Carvajal; members of the board of directors, executives, professionals, workers and workers of Codelco.
