Colombia launches tender for US$600mn highway

The Colombian government opened the bidding for the 2.21tn-peso (US$585mn) project to convert the Buenaventura-Buga route into a divided highway.

The 128km highway links the Pacific port of Buenaventura with the interior of the country. The additional lanes will be built along 116km of the route, while the current lanes will be upgraded.

The project also involves 1.84bn pesos in opex, according to a release from infrastructure agency ANI.

Construction is due to take five years, while the operations and maintenance stage will last for 24 years.

The work is part of the 5G concessions program, which has so far awarded three road projects: Nueva Malla Vial del Valle del Cauca, Cali-Palmira accesses; ALO Sur; and Accesos Norte.

The 5G portfolio involves 14 road, airport, river navigability and rail projects with investment of 21.8tn pesos, creating some 544,000 jobs.
