Colombia ups spending on public TV

Colombia's government has earmarked nearly 292bn pesos (US$86mn) for investments in national and regional TV channels this year, up 9% on 2019.

Of the total, 200bn pesos will be allocated to strengthening public service broadcasting and phase 5 of the secondary network of digital terrestrial television (DTT), the ICT ministry (MinTIC) said in a release.

Another 91.5bn pesos will go to content, training and audience measurement tools, among others.

The 2019 ICT modernization law enshrined public broadcasting as a national policy.

The ministry also said analog screens and digital platforms are complementary.

According to a Target Group Index (TGI), in the first half of 2019, 98.2% of Colombians watched television on traditional screens.
