Colombia's Pacific LNG terminal targets November startup
Colombia's Pacific regasification terminal, the country's first LNG import facility serving the Pacific coast, is on track to begin operating in November, project CEO Oscar Isaza said.
The initiative will receive, store, transport and regasify liquefied natural gas through the port of Buenaventura, with volumes trucked to Buga, around 100km away, for injection into Colombia’s pipeline network.
The facility is designed primarily to supply essential demand in the country’s southwest, where gas demand exceeds 80 million cubic feet per day (Mf³/d) and much of it is not covered by long-term contracts, according to officials.
Isaza told news outlet Guia del Gas the target startup date hinged on construction progress, equipment delivery and logistics between Buenaventura and Buga, among other factors.
In February, the project secured US$130mn in senior debt from state development bank FDN and PTG Pactual.
Last year, local state-run oil company Ecopetrol said it signed a services contract with Puertos, Inversiones y Obras for the project's receiving and storage terminal.
