Concessions for nearly 700MW expire in the Dominican Republic

The Dominican Republic’s national energy commission (CNE) has issued resolutions declaring the expiration of six provisional power concessions for nearly a combined 700MW.
A provisional concession expires when the developer does not carry out studies within the granted term (usually 18 months), according to the CNE, which highlights the need “for the smooth running and development of the sector.”
One of the resolutions is for a 73MW plant proposed by Consorcio Energético Puna Cana-Macao (CEPM) that would run on natural gas and heavy or light fuel oil.
Three other concessions that have expired are for Cotoperi Solar FV’s Cotoperi I, II and III projects in La Romana province. Each park would boast 54.2MW.
And two resolutions are for EGE Haina’s 400MW Quisqueya III plant in San Pedro de Macoris province that would run on natural gas, fuel oil and/or diesel, and the 60MW phase two of the Girasol solar park in San Cristobal province.
EGE Haina told BNamericas that they will continue with both projects, explaining that the regulatory framework allows for the renewal of expired provisional concessions.
CNE has already issued EGE Haina a new provisional concession for Girasol that includes another 18 months to carry out studies in the lead up to the definitive concession.
EGE Haina recently began construction of the 90MW Esperanza solar park.
CEPM and Cotoperi did not immediately respond to a request for comment regarding their projects.
