Consorcio, Mapfre unit lead Chilean insurers' 2012 complaint ranking

Chilean P&C insurer Consorcio and the local life insurance unit of Spain's Mapfre topped the 2012 complaint ranking issued by Chile's insurance and securities regulator SVS. The index is based on the number of complaints received by Chilean life and P&C insurers for every 1bn pesos (US$1.98mn) issued in written premiums per year. According to SVS's new report, Consorcio Seguros Generales led the pack in the P&C segment with a score of 4.33, followed by locally owned Zenit, with 4.21. As for life insurers, Mapfre Seguros de Vida scored 5.70, followed by locally owned Seguros CLC, with 3.82. Last year, SVS received 7,509 written complaints against insurers, brokers and loss adjusters, down 12.9% on 2011. SVS said 37% of complaints settled in 2012 were won by policyholders.
