Dimension Data opens datacenter in Brazil, unveils cloud unit
South African IT services provider Dimension Data has launched its first South American datacenter, located in Brazilian financial metropolis São Paulo, according to a company statement.
The new facility is one of four global managed cloud platforms (MCPs) announced in November by Dimension Data to support its cloud computing offers.
The other three new installations are in Ashburn, Virginia in the US; Melbourne, Australia and London, UK (scheduled for January 2014).
With the new datacenter, Dimension Data takes the total number of MCP locations to 11, with datacenters in each of the Americas, EMEA, Asia Pacific and Australia regions.
As well as the datacenter, the company also unveiled a new business unit dedicated to cloud computing, with a strategy focused on the telecom, security, networking and mobility verticals.
Dimension Data expects the datacenter to boost its business and aims to achieve 40% growth in the Brazilian market in its fiscal year ending September 2014.
According to the company's Brazil president, Marcelo Menta, Dimension Data is the only integrator in the country to offer private, public and hybrid cloud services from a local infrastructure.
Services will be offered in the IaaS and SaaS models and, according to Menta, all types of cloud will be able to be accessed from a single interface.
He also highlighted that having a local datacenter will increase the speed of the accessed and transmitted data.
