Ecuador to digitize 70% of procedures this year

By the end of the year, 70% of government procedures in Ecuador will be carried out digitally, and the figure will rise to 90% in 2021.

At a press conference, telecommunications minister Andrés Michelena (pictured) said that 40% of procedures are already done online.

He added that the measure aims to accelerate the elimination of unnecessary procedures and simplify existing ones, for which President Lenín Moreno issued two executive decrees under the framework of the government's digital transformation policies.

With the establishment of digital citizen service platforms, the government wants to optimize “the use of public funds in physical infrastructure and current spending,” the ministry said in a statement.

Thus, the digitization of procedures in various regulatory agencies will take priority, among them the social security institute, Quito municipality and its public companies, among other entities.
