Argentina's RenovAr 2 renewable energy auction draws 9.4GW of offers

Argentina's RenovAr Ronda 2 renewable energy tender drew offers totaling 9,403MW, eight times greater than in the first auction, the energy ministry reported.

A total of 2.5GW was offered in the RenovAr 1.5 tender last November, and 1.1GW was awarded in the first auction last October.

The ministry received a total of 228 offers during the latest auction that it estimates will bring US$11bn in investment to the sector, in wind, solar, biomass, biogas, small-scale hydroelectric and landfill biogas projects.

Offers will be evaluated and technical qualification will take place through the end of this month, with the opening of economic offers and awarding scheduled to take place in November.

In August, local investment and foreign trade bank BICE allocated US$200mn to finance renewable energy projects awarded through RenovAr.
