IFC issued a green bond denominated in Peruvian soles for US$15mn, to support climate-friendly investments in emerging markets.
"The bond sets a precedent as the first green bond issued by a multilateral institution in the Peruvian markets," the World Bank member said in a statement.
Local insurance firm Rimac Seguros was the sole investor in the 15-year bond and the first insurance company in Latin America to invest in green bonds, added IFC. JPMorgan was the lead manager for the transaction.
IFC issues green bonds for private sector investments that support renewable energy and energy efficiency projects.
