Peru's government committed a budget of 85mn soles (US$29.6mn) for the Alto Piura multipurpose hydro and irrigation project for 2015, reported state news agency Andina.
The Organization of Ibero-American States (OEI) issued a call for birds in May, but was put on hold because of observations from the authorities and potential bidders, who felt a more exhaustive market study was needed.
The call was for the first phase of the project, which involves building the Sur dam and trans-Andean water tunnel, at a cost of 550mn soles. Works are scheduled to take five years.
The Alto Piura project aims to transport water from the Huancabamba river to the Alto Piura basin to irrigate 50,000ha of land. A subsequent phase will include a power generation project comprising the 150MW Cashapite and Gramadal plants.
