The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) closed agreements with 100% of the private generators that meet the legal and technical requirements for the sale of electricity, as stipulated by Law 7200 and the other requirements indicated by the Services Regulatory Authority. Public (ARESEP).

As of today, 22 of the 26 private plants that operate in the country already have an agreement with the Institute. The rest (Poás I, Poás II and Río Segundo) do not comply with the regulations for the sale of energy to ICE. To these is added the El Embalse Hydroelectric, still under negotiation.

“This effort is combined with the improvement in the quality of service, the expansion of rural electrification and the satisfaction of demand in the midst of El Niño. We are working to reactivate the economy and promote the development of all sectors and the inhabitants of the country”, explained Marco Acuña, president of Grupo ICE.

Of these 26 existing private plants –which add up to 357 megawatts of power–, the 22 with an agreement cover 354 megawatts, that is, more than 99% available. During the last year, the Institute has renegotiated and extended the contracts under the terms contained in Executive Decree No. 43700-MINAE .
