The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) and the Tapezco Hydroelectric Plant signed an agreement for the purchase of electricity for the next six years.

The signature was given at the Jorge Manuel Dengo building, located in La Sabana, by Joshua Joseph Davies, representative of Tapezco, and Roberto Quirós, Electricity manager of the Institute.

For Quirós, "the agreement is part of the efforts made by the Institution to make higher availability forecasts, according to the energy needs that the country presents during 2023 and the coming years."

This new contract is based on Executive Decree 43,700-MINAE of September 2022, which provides ICE with greater flexibility in the commercial conditions of energy purchase –within the price ranges according to the new tariff methodology approved by ARESEP– and which allows offer competitive rates to all customers.

The contract contemplates an agreement for 186 kW , with a price of $56.6 per MWh in summer and $41.52 per MWh in winter.

Currently, the Institute is negotiating the signing of more contracts with other private generators under these new conditions, which it expects to close in the coming weeks.
