In Mexico, the percentage of triple play plans that include more than 50 Mbps increases

The Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) presents the Report of Comparable Information on Plans and Rates of Fixed Telecommunications Services Double and Triple Play 2021, which highlights the increase in the download speed of internet and fixed telephony plans, since 52% of the plans include a download speed greater than 50 Mbps, in contrast to 48% reported in 2020.

Likewise, it stands out that in the fixed internet plans, fixed telephony and pay television ( triple play), 59% corresponds to packages that include more than 50 Mbps, contrasting with 25% reported in 2020. Similarly, the increase in the percentage of plans that include more than 100 channels, registering 69%, in contrast to 60% reported in 2020.

Among the main findings of the Comparable Information Report on Plans and Rates of Double and Triple Play Fixed Telecommunications Services 2021 are:

Fixed internet and telephony ( double play )

  • 64 plans were considered that include a download speed of 3 Mbps up to 1,000 Mbps, corresponding to the current offer and available to the user.
  • The highest percentage of plans, 52%, includes a download speed greater than 50 Mbps. 38% of the plans include a download speed of 10 to 50 Mbps. The lowest percentage of plans, 11%, have a download speed less than 10 Mbps.
  • The average monthly rent for plans with a download speed of less than 10 Mbps is 305 pesos; plans from 10 to 50 Mbps have an average monthly rent of 507 pesos. While the average monthly rent for plans with a download speed greater than 50 Mbps is 998 pesos.

The states of Coahuila, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Jalisco, Puebla, Querétaro, Tlaxcala, Veracruz and Zacatecas are the entities with the largest presence of concessionaires that offer internet and fixed telephony services in double play mode. In these states the service is offered by seven concessionaires.

Fixed internet and pay TV ( double play )

  • 12 plans were considered that include a download speed of 3 Mbps to 10 Mbps, corresponding to the current offer and available to the user.
  • 50% of the plans include a download speed of greater than or equal to 10 Mbps. While the other 50% include a download speed of less than 10 Mbps.
  • The fixed internet and pay television ( double play) offer analyzed offers between 46 and 87 channels.
  • The average monthly rent of the plans that include a download speed of less than 10 Mbps is 449 pesos. While, the average monthly rent for plans with a download speed greater than or equal to 10 Mbps is 545 pesos.
  • Aguascalientes, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Michoacán and Tlaxcala are the states with a greater presence of concessionaires that offer fixed internet service and pay television in double play mode.

Fixed internet, fixed telephony and pay television ( triple play )

  • 64 plans were contemplated that include a download speed of 5 Mbps up to 1,000 Mbps, corresponding to the current offer and available to the user.
  • The highest percentage of plans, 59%, includes a download speed greater than 50 Mbps. 38% of plans include a download speed of 10 to 50 Mbps. The lowest percentage of plans, 3%, have a download speed less than 10 Mbps.
  • The fixed internet, fixed telephony and pay television ( triple play ) offer analyzed offer between 45 and 277 channels.
  • The average monthly rent for plans with a download speed of less than 10 Mbps is 520 pesos; the 10 to 50 Mbps plans have an average monthly rent of 675 pesos. While, the average monthly rent for plans with a download speed greater than 50 Mbps is 1,259 pesos.

Baja California, Coahuila, Guanajuato, Guerrero, Hidalgo, Jalisco, Puebla and Tlaxcala are the states with the largest presence of concessionaires that offer fixed internet service, fixed telephony and pay television in triple play mode.
