Indian port developer mulls building Costa Rica dry canal

India’s biggest port developer and operator, Adani Group, is interested in building a dry canal in Costa Rica.

During the World Economic Forum in Davos, President Rodrigo Chaves and Adani Group head Gautam Adani talked about infrastructure investments. Costa Rica’s foreign affairs ministry later confirmed to La República newspaper that Adani was particularly interested in a dry canal and help turn Costa Rica into a logistics hub.

La República reported that government officials expect a visit by Adani this year.

The dry canal, facilitating ground transport between port terminals, is planned to compete with the Panama Canal, and similar plans have been promoted by Honduras, El Salvador and Nicaragua.

Adani Group is also India’s biggest thermal coal producer and coal trader.
