Iquique airport expansion gets environmental nod

Chile’s environmental evaluation service SEA approved the environmental impact declaration (EID) for the expansion of Iquique‘s Diego Aracena airport, Tarapacá region.

The US$56mn expansion entails enlarging the passenger terminal to nearly 20,000m2, adding 600 car parking spaces, expanding the plane parking space by 19,250m2, widening access roads and one of the existing aeronautical roads, adding two more boarding bridges and new administrative buildings, among other works, according to the EID.

Works will be carried out by concessionaire APORT.

In its latest report to the public works ministry (MOP) in February, the firm said it must request authorization to begin works - expected to take 27 months - by end-May.
