LATAM Airlines Argentina ceases operations and other subsidiaries will continue to operate international destinations in the country
By LATAM Airlines
Santiago, Chile - June 17, 2020. LATAM Airlines Group reports that LATAM Airlines Argentina today announced the cessation of its operations, both for passengers and cargo, for an indefinite period.
This news responds to the fact that, in the current conditions, aggravated by the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and by the difficulty of building structural agreements with local industry players, it is not possible to visualize a viable and sustainable project over time.
“It is unfortunate but inevitable news. LATAM today must focus on transforming the group to adapt to post-COVID-19 aviation, ” said Roberto Alvo, CEO of LATAM Airlines Group . "Argentina has always been a fundamental country and will continue to be. The other subsidiaries of the LATAM group will continue connecting passengers from that country with Latin America and the world," added Alvo.
LATAM Airlines Argentina will stop flying to and from 12 domestic destinations while the subsidiary's four international destinations to the United States, Brazil, Chile and Peru will continue to be operated by the other subsidiaries of the group, once the restrictions imposed by the authorities in the framework of the health emergency are lifted. Likewise, the international cargo routes of the Argentine subsidiary will be served by the other subsidiaries of the LATAM group. It should be noted that LATAM Argentina is the only subsidiary of the group that will cease operations.
LATAM Airlines Argentina will soon enable, through its official channels, responses and alternatives to all those passengers who have purchased tickets, in accordance with the following commercial policies:
NATIONAL ROUTES
- If they bought the ticket with a credit card, the company will automatically return the purchase amount within 30 and 45 days to the same payment method. Otherwise, the passenger must enter their return at latam.com/administratuviaje
INTERNATIONAL ROUTES
- They may change the flight date without cost or fare difference. This is subject to the availability of the cabin and the validity of the ticket, which corresponds to one year from the start date of the trip.
- They can also request a travel voucher to use until December 31, 2021 on any LATAM route.
TICKETS EXCHANGED WITH MILES FOR ANY DESTINATION
- They will be able to request the return of the ticket in miles in their LATAM Pass account through latam.com; taxes will be paid in the same form of payment used.
About LATAM Airlines Argentina
For 15 years, LATAM Airlines Argentina worked for the development and connectivity of the country, transporting 3.1 million passengers in the last year and transporting a weekly average of 270 tons of export products in the cargo business -mainly berries, fresh meats and pharmaceutical products-, and 290 tons of imported products –mainly of auto parts, industrial machinery and pharmaceutical products.
At the same time, it made a historic commitment during the COVID-19 pandemic, with the repatriation of passengers since March 19 being its only active operation. Commitment that, through joint work with the Argentine Foreign Ministry and local consulates, contributed to the return of 16,015 Argentines to the country, as well as the departure of more than 6,000 foreigners to their destinations of origin.
