Latin America is a leading region in DCIM adoption
Latin American datacenter professionals are increasingly more willing and open than their counterparts in developed markets to apply the latest technology in their datacenter environments, Peter Panfil, VP of global power at Emerson Network Power told BNamericas.
In fact, in datacenter infrastructure management (DCIM) tools, a number of Latin American countries are leading DCIM adoption when comparing yearly percentage change, he said on the sidelines of the DataCenter Dynamics conference which took place in Santiago, Chile.
The top six markets for percentage uptake are Russia (382%), Brazil (309%), Argentina (200%), Colombia (183%), France (175%), and Peru & Chile (167%), according to Panfil's presentation during the conference.
When it comes to installing DCIM, datacenters are deploying the solution mostly for capacity planning (46%), he said during the conference, citing a Gartner study. Other reasons are predictive analysis (34%), power and cooling management (15%) and deploying in new datacenters (5%).
"When we look at the more mature markets, they make smaller, more incremental changes in their datacenter configurations. In Latin America, I find that datacenter users want the most efficiency, the most availability they can possibly get," he said. "They realize that if they deploy DCIM, not only will it help them from a utilization standpoint, it's going to help them from an efficiency standpoint, from an availability standpoint. They can more rapidly adopt leading edge technology and put it to good use."
The executive pointed to a leading telco in Chile which recently inaugurated a top of the line datacenter, which employed Emerson Network Power for an end-to-end solution. While Panfil could not mention the specific telco, Chile's leading three firms are Entel, Movistar and Claro.
