MD&A Bearings, Seals & Hydraulics Division’s Upgrade
MD&A recently supplied an upgraded system of hydrogen seals for a customer’s 7FH2 generator located in Colombia.
Many units in the combined cycle setup, which can be comprised of two MS7001FA gas turbines and a D11 steam turbine, are also equipped with 7FH2 generators.
The customer requested an upgrade of their existing unbolted hydrogen seals to a bolted design for two of the two generators. Many units have unbolted, babbitted hydrogen seals, especially on 7FA® and D11® machines. If there’s any contamination of the oil or improper assembly, those conditions may cause the unbolted seals to tilt, which could lead to a hydrogen leakage and oil ingress into the generator.
MD&A supplied the two casings with a bolted style along with the upgraded hydrogen seals and all the hardware required. We also supplied a spare set of D11 valve parts and hardware.
For upcoming maintenance, MD&A supplied one set of 7F refurbished third stage hot section parts (including buckets, nozzles, and shrouds).
The upcoming maintenance will include a Hot Gas Path Inspection, since one of the units has reached the required number of equivalent starts, as well as, the inspection of the generator rotor & stator.
Throughout the U.S. and around the globe, MD&A provides responsive support, thorough communication, and excellent execution, making MD&A the service provider of choice for numerous power generation asset owners who desire a one-stop solution for all of their turbine-generator needs.
