Mexican govt insures assets along flagship rail project
Grupo Financiero Inbursa, owned by Mexican magnate Carlos Slim, was the company picked by the federal government to insure assets on the route of the Maya Train and within the complex of Felipe Ángeles international airport (AIFA), daily El Universal reported.
Olmeca-Maya-Mexicana Airport, Rail, and Auxiliary and Related Services Group (GAFSACOMM), the company that manages several infrastructure projects and is run by the defense ministry (Sedena), reportedly paid 335mn pesos (US$17mn) to insure six hotels, parks and museums along the rail line in southeast Mexico, as well as a paleontology museum within AIFA's grounds.
The assets covered are the Chichén-Itzá, Palenque, Calakmul, Nuevo Uxmal, Tulum and Edzná hotels; parks Nuevo Uxmal in Campeche state, Jaguar in Quintana Roo state and La Plancha, in Yucatán state; and the rail museums in Mérida in Yucatán state, as well as the Santa Lucía Quinametzin museum – also called 'the mammoth museum' within the AIFA complex.
Those assets, whose total value is estimated at 8.89bn pesos, are now protected against natural disasters, terrorism attacks, sabotage, strikes, vandalism and social unrest.
The insurance policy runs from August 30 this year to December 31, 2025, with the option to extend it.
