Mexico in excellent shape as investment - Alcatel-Lucent

Bnamericas

Mexico's telecom reforms will allow investment to grow in the sector, Alcatel-Lucent CEO Michel Combes said.

"Mexico has a very strong and dynamic market," he said at a press conference during the company's annual Technology Symposium in Basking Ridge, New Jersey. "It is moving very fast and has great potential for growth – and we want to be there to take advantage of it."

Combes said investment in the country dropped slightly last year, but that now is the moment to increase it. "Wide reaching telecom legislation," he said, coupled with recent developments in fixed and mobile broadband, particularly faster wireless service, were game changers for companies active in the sector.

Alcatel-Lucent will continue to work with América Móvil, Telmex, Telefónica and Iusacell, even after being acquired by AT&T.

Combes also said that Alcatel-Lucent had reversed last year's poor performance. The company posted 1.29bn euros (US$1.60bn) in revenue in 2013, down 9% from 2.09bn the previous year.

BNamericas will host its 3rd Mexican Telecom Summit in Mexico City, Mexico, on December 3-4. Click here to download the agenda.
