Mexico mulls new infra program for Cutzamala system

Bnamericas Published: Friday, October 21, 2022

Mexico’s water authority Conagua is looking to award on October 26 a feasibility and socioeconomic study contract to help determine the works it will include in the 2024-27 program of the Cutzamala water distribution system, which supplies more than 30% of the water in the Valley of Mexico.

On Wednesday, Conagua received two bids for the contract, records on procurement site Compranet show.

Herzo Consultoría Financiera offered 4.80mn pesos (US$240,000) while Madrid Strategia offered 3.87mn pesos.

The program will include all construction and repair works.

According to the tender specifications, “a fundamental aspect that is incorporated as part of the work to be carried out corresponds to the conceptual and technical development of those works for which basic engineering studies are lacking to date.”

Cutzamala supplies some 16,000l/s to areas of Mexico City and the capital’s metropolitan area.

It comprises seven main dams, six pumping plants and a potable water treatment plant, among other infrastructure.
