Mexico's M&A activity up 52% in Q1

M&A activity in Mexico increased 52% in the first quarter of 2014 to US$5.32bn compared to the same period last year, according to data firm Transactional Track Record.

The total number of transactions also increased from 32 in 1Q13 to 49 in the first quarter of this year.

Transactions under US$100mn led with 14 deals for a total of US$282mn, while transactions over US$500mn reached four in the period for a total of US$4.92bn.

One of the largest deals in the quarter was French satellite operator Eutelsat Communications' acquisition of Mexican satellite management company Satmex from EchoStar Satellite Services for US$831mn.
