Mine accident in Chile kills 1, injures 4
An accident on Monday at the small Santa Mónica copper mine in northern Chile's Antofagasta region caused the death of a 24-year-old miner, Nicolás Llanos.
Tocopilla's mayor, Luis Moyano, told local reporters that the mine partially collapsed, wounding four other workers.
Mining minister Baldo Prokurica said on Twitter that authorities from geological service Sernageomin and firefighters were working onsite. Authorities did not provide more details.
The last mining accident in Tocopilla was in June 2019, when two of three miners trapped in the San José copper mine died.
