Peru - MINEM: More than 1 million families will access lower-cost gas in 2023 through the LPG Discount Voucher

This Minem release was published using machine translation.
The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) reported that the LPG Discount Voucher program, which allows a discount of S/ 25 on the purchase of a domestic gas bottle, will reach more than 1 million homes nationwide and will include the distribution of kitchen kits to ensure that more families have cheap gas and stop using firewood and solid fuels that harm their health.
The LPG Discount Voucher program, financed with resources from the Social Energy Inclusion Fund (FISE), promotes the replacement of polluting solid fuels such as coal, firewood/dung and others, used mainly by highly vulnerable families that are thus exposed to ills continuous breaths.
According to the 2012 INEI National Household Survey, 95.1% of households in extreme poverty, as well as 64.8% of families in conditions of non-extreme poverty, used solid fuels more frequently, and this indicator was reduced by up to 20 percentage points to 2021, which shows the contribution of the program to improve the quality of life of families.
By November 2022, the LPG Discount Voucher has benefited 940,978 families, and is distributed to serve homes, soup kitchens, common kitchens, and public educational institutions, with 78% of its beneficiaries living in poverty and vulnerability, located in areas without access to natural gas.
By 2023, in addition to increasing the coverage of the program, it is expected to approve the increase in the economic value of the LPG Discount Voucher to S/ 43 for the provinces where natural gas fields are in production and to S/ 63 for the district of Megantoni and Kumpirishiato in the province of La Convención, in Cusco.
The MINEM, in its capacity as administrator of FISE, confirmed that it assumes the commitment to strengthen social-energy programs so that more Peruvians have the necessary support to meet their energy needs, contribute to their basic family basket and promote economic reactivation.
