The Ministry of Energy and Mines (MINEM) reported that the current portfolio of rural electrification projects until 2023 contemplates investments of more than S/ 2,073 million, which are distributed in 123 projects that will be developed in 23 regions of the country, for the benefit directly from more than 902 thousand citizens.

Of this total, 14 projects have already been completed during the last year 2022, 36 are in the execution phase, 20 are in the hiring process, 5 in process prior to the selection process, 16 in the technical file preparation phase, and 32 are preparing a pre-investment study.

The specialists of the General Directorate of Rural Electrification (DGER) of the MINEM, point out that, as a result of the works carried out, the electrification of 86% in rural areas of the country has been completed, and the projection of rural electricity coverage is to reach 93% of households in remote and difficult-to-access sectors by the end of 2023.

Among the largest projects, those that will be developed in the southern regions of the country stand out. For example, in Puno, works will be carried out for a total of S/ 363.2 million, benefiting 193 thousand inhabitants of various communities in the provinces of Azángaro, Carabaya, Lampa, Melgar, San Antonio de Putina, Huancané, among others.

The Junín region also stands out on this list, since rural electrification works will be carried out in that region with an investment of S/ 105.1 million, benefiting more than 48 thousand residents of the provinces of Tarma, Jauja, Satipo and Chanchamayo.

In the north of the country, the Loreto region stands out with an investment of S/ 351.9 million in works to provide electricity to more than 63,000 inhabitants.

MINEM remarked that the development of rural electrification projects is a priority for the government, since they directly affect the improvement of the quality of life of the beneficiary population, as well as the promotion of their productive activities and the industrialization of remote areas of the country, generating new development opportunities.
