In the early hours of today, some residents of the Huancute Annex have cut the metal mesh that is located in the perimeter of the Inmaculada Mining Unit (“Inmaculada Mine”), in order to illegally invade private property, which constitutes both a crime of usurpation, as a crime of property damage.

Compañía Minera Ares has become aware of a plan orchestrated by the residents of the Huancute Annex and their advisers to illegally invade the Inmaculada Mining Unit (“Inmaculada Mine”) located in Ayacucho with the use of force.

It should be noted that the Inmaculada Mine carries out its activities on lands on which it has mining easements granted by the owners of said lands, by virtue of the easement contracts signed with the State and with the Huallhua Rural Community. In addition, it has possession rights granted by possessors of the Huancute Annex itself and by the Qatary Huancute Association.

Compañía Minera Ares holds the leaders of the Huancute Annex and their advisors responsible in advance for any act of violence that may arise from this illegal and arbitrary action.

Unfortunately, it is not the first time that acts have been carried out that threaten our legitimate possession of the area in question. It should be noted that, on several occasions, groups of residents have entered our property without authorization despite repeated requests that they not enter the industrial area of the Inmaculada Mine. Unfortunately, some residents perform acts, such as those described, accompanied by children, exposing them to this type of situation.

Compañía Minera Ares has proceeded to make the corresponding complaints before the Public Ministry and the National Police of Peru, regarding these acts that violate the law. In this sense, we alert the authorities to intervene guaranteeing order, as well as the integrity of the more than 1,700 employees of Compañía Minera Ares who work in the Inmaculada Mine and avoid events that could generate violence and material damage, as befits a rule of law.
