Mining sector in Bahia state expands 15%

Mining production by value in Brazil’s Bahia state increased 14.6% in January-November to 9.4bn reais (US$1.78bn), according to the state’s economic development department.
Gold represented 26%, copper 21% and nickel 17%, the department said in a statement.
The mining sector accounted for 14,802 jobs in the state, it added.
The sector has flourished in Bahia state recently, partly thanks to rail projects that have reduced logistics costs for mining firms.
