Buenos Aires, October 27, 2022.- Movistar and Metrotel announced the signing of an agreement that will connect Movistar customers with the last mile of fiber to the home in various neighborhoods of the Federal Capital. Thus, citizens will have access to the possibility of enjoying a new browsing experience through ultra-fast broadband networks.
Based on this joint work focused on bridging the digital divide, both companies come together to promote greater connectivity and promote new services to users. In this way, Movistar customers in certain neighborhoods of CABA -in this first stage- will have up to 1GB of bandwidth, speeding up the numerous daily activities that the new normal brought about.
Through a collaborative model -scalable to other regions-, each actor adds its capacities to accelerate the access of citizens to the digital universe and facilitate the use of technology in their day to day. Those who today have Internet through XDSL technology in their homes will be able to access a state-of-the-art fiber optic network in the neighborhoods reached in this alliance.
Luis Delamer, Movistar's Hispam Wholesale Director, indicated that this agreement “will allow thousands of citizens to access the latest home connectivity technologies, optimizing browsing experiences, both for personal and work life. This agreement that we are pleased to announce today together with Metrotel is part of Movistar's strategy of forging alliances to extend digitization, both in different areas of Argentina, as well as in different countries in the region”.
For his part, Gustavo Vidal, Commercial Director of Metrotel, stated: “We are convinced that network connectivity has become a key asset on which the new digital society is based. In this sense, we believe that promoting agreements of magnitude, such as the one made with Movistar, will allow us to promote our shared infrastructure model in order to promote more and better services.”
Reduce the digital divide
The agreement contemplates the sharing of infrastructure between the two companies to reach customers with greater speed and efficiency, through an integrated offer of telecommunications services, including ultra-fast broadband and voice over IP.
The community as a whole has fixed and mobile services within its reach, with a variety of proposals that enrich connectivity such as quadruple play that combines fixed and mobile telephony, broadband and TV services, as well as new products and services, as well as more competitive offers.
Access through a combination of technologies makes it possible to ensure over time the growing bandwidth required by the daily life of the different social and economic sectors, especially since the greater demand that fell on the networks with the arrival of the pandemic by COVID.
Thanks to the use of the latest technologies, offline life moved to the online universe, accelerating its migration speed by four, thus allowing the continuity of social, economic and educational activities.
It is imperative to move towards the digitization of society, as the basis for leveraging the sustainability of the productive ecosystem, socioeconomic reactivation, and as a mitigating factor for the pandemic and post-pandemic continuity.
Based on this alliance, Metrotel and Movistar seal their commitment to the deployment of high-capacity networks under a sustainable and inclusive model, in order to expand the digitization of citizens and make the world more human by connecting people's lives.
For 30 years, it has provided telecommunications services to the leading companies in Argentina, developing products and services for the different business segments, seeking customer satisfaction, continuous growth and technological innovation. It has a fiber optic network of more than 6,400 km, with its own solid infrastructure, which allows it to offer reliable and highly available services.
It is currently implementing a model that allows the development of telecommunications in general, called "Shared Infrastructure as a Service". This model allows more than one provider to provide internet services to end users over the same fiber optic network, achieving a rational use of public space, optimizing costs and enabling access to state-of-the-art technological resources for the population.
