Online sales in Brazil expected to increase 60% for this year's Black Friday
E-commerce sales during Brazil's Black Friday on November 29 are expected to increase 60% to 390mn reais (US$169mn) compared with 244mn reais last year, local e-commerce consulting firm E-bit said in a press release.
The event, which originates from the US and was consolidated in Brazil in 2012, is expected to see 1mn orders made online, with the average customer spending 390 reais, according to first E-bit estimates.
Items such as computers, electronics and appliances are expected to be the most sold, with discounts of as much as 70%. Fashion and accessories and telephony/cell phones are expected to be the other two categories with the highest online sales.
Pedro Guasti, the general director of E-bit, said that the e-commerce industry has been taking steps to assure that Black Friday runs smoothly, but he also advised that online scams are still a problem and that consumers should always check a company's reputation before purchasing from them.
Last year, E-bit partially attributed the slow e-commerce experienced in Brazil during the Christmas season as a whole to Black Friday's boom of activity.
