Panama issues call to increase power dispatch flexibility

Panama’s state power transmission company Etesa has launched bidding to improve load demand capacity in Colón province.
The US$22.6mn project entails the overhaul of 230kV substations Santa Rita and Sabanitas, and construction of a 1km line to connect them.
Etesa highlights the retirement of bunker and coal-fired plants in the area and new generation connection points, such as those for natural gas plant Costa Norte (380MW) in operation and the planned Gatún (670MW) complex.
An information meeting for the 662-day contract will be held February 2 and offers are due February 28, according to procurement information.
Etesa also has procurement underway for the GIS Burunga substation, the Mata de Nance-Frontera line, the revamp of the Veladero-Panamá line and the addition of a transformer at the Boquerón III substation.
