Paraguay issues call for US$80mn hydro overhaul
Paraguay's state power company Ande is seeking firms to advance the US$80mn revamp of the 200MW Acaray-Yguazú hydroelectric plant.
The contract involves penstock rehabilitation work as part of the IDB-financed overhaul.
BNamericas previously reported that Ande was evaluating the possibility of splitting procurement into packages for the penstock work; another for turbines, generators and the SCADA system; and a third for gates, cofferdams and lifting equipment.
Offers for the US$9.7mn, 30-month contract, which includes 18 months of construction and a 12-month liability period, are due July 3, according to bidding information available here.
Acaray-Yguazú is in Alto Parana department and in December covered 3% of Paraguay’s demand, according to the latest data from the mines and energy department.
Itaipú, on the border with Brazil, and Yacyretá, shared with Argentina, accounted for 85% and 12% of demand, respectively.
Demand in Paraguay in the first four months of 2026 rose 21% compared with January-April last year.
