PDVSA to bolster Orinoco energy supply

Venezuela's PDVSA said that in 2017 it will bring online 100MW in Barinas state to supply the so-called Hugo Chávez Orinoco oil belt.

The capacity will come from a thermoelectric plant (pictured) under construction at the Santa Inés agroindustrial complex (Cominsi).

In an update, the NOC said construction at end-December had reached the 71% completion mark. Output also will supply Cominsi and the national grid.

PDVSA is carrying out the US$300mn project with China's Sinohydro and it is being financed through the Fondo Conjunto Chino Venezolano.

In related news, PDVSA president and oil and mining minister Eulogio Del Pino visited Russia where he met with Gazprombank and Rosneft as part of a tour of OPEC and non-OPEC oil producing countries to promote an oil pricing and market stabilization proposal.
