Peru advances plan to shore up fuel dispatch

Latest statistics from Peru's energy and mines ministry reveal growing domestic fuel sales with 247,000b/d sold in November compared with 213,800b/d a year earlier.

To guarantee dispatch, authorities have embarked on a series of projects, among them the new Ilo fuel terminal in southern region Moquegua.

The complex is planned to be built 24km south of the city of Ilo in the Loma La Buitrera zone, adjacent to El Palo beach, and it will replace state oil company Petroperú's existing Ilo terminal.

The terminal will eventually have 17 storage tanks, seven of which will be installed in a first phase. Nominal capacity of the initial tanks will range from to 3,200-91,000b for a combined 296,200b to hold ethanol, diesel and gasoline. Cesel Ingenieros prepared the basic engineering plans.

Petroperú has opened registration to carry out EPC and startup. Offers for the 164mn-sol (US$47mn) 476-day contract are due February 25 with awarding scheduled for next month.

The NOC expects the new terminal will help it maintain its liquid fuel market participation in regions Moquegua and Tacna, as well as serve regions Madre de Dios and Puno, and Bolivia's state hydrocarbons company YPFB along with other clients in the neighboring country, in the future.
