Peru creates commission to monitor Repsol refinery spill

Peru’s government has established a commission to monitor actions related to environmental damage from January’s oil spill at multi-buoy terminal number 2 of the Repsol-controlled La Pampilla refinery.

The multisector commission will seek to “guarantee adequate reparation and compensation to the State,” according to a supreme resolution.

A cabinet representative will preside over the commission, which will be in force for five months and will include representatives from the ministries of energy and mines, environment and justice, among others.

The commission may invite representatives from public and private entities, academic institutions and international agencies to support its work.
