Peru energy watch: Wind project permitting, gas plant funds

Peru’s energy and mines ministry cancelled the evaluation of Engie Energía Perú’s (EEP) semi-detailed EIS for the 205MW Orianka wind project.

The action was taken after EEP failed to respond to observations within the legal timeframe, according to the ministry, which said, however, that the company may present a new evaluation request.

EEP did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The ministry, meanwhile, authorized the transfer of 13mn soles (US$3.4mn) to the Cusco regional government to help finance the construction of the planned natural gas liquids fractionation plant, in Convención province.

In a related note, the ministry activated a rationing mechanism to guarantee the supply of natural gas after an emergency was declared following the occupation of gas transporter TGP’s Kámani compression plant by protestors amid conflict over the ousting of former president Pedro Castillo.

Dispatch priority will be as follows: regulated residential and commercial offtake, vehicular use, power producers, regulated industrial customers and independent users.
