Peruvian economy barely grows above 5% in 2013
The Peruvian economy barely managed to grow 5.02% in 2013.
The growth rate is still among the highest in Latin America and the Caribbean, but represents a clear slowdown from 2012's expansion of 6.3%.
In the last month of 2013, the economy grew 5.01% year-on-year, according to the country's statistics agency Inei.
The sectors that saw the fastest growth last year were the fishing, financial services and construction industries, said Inei.
The agency also added that 2013 marked the 15th consecutive year of growth for the Peruvian economy.
The IMF said last month that it expects growth in Peru to accelerate this year to about 5.5%.
The multilateral believes that country's economic growth outlook remains favorable in the near term despite challenging external conditions, including the projected growth deceleration in China (one of Peru's main trading partners) and the unwinding of monthly purchases of securities by the US Fed.
