
Port of Santos maintains cargo handling records in October

The Port of Santos beat new cargo handling records in October: the best result for the month (14.4 million tons) and for the year (138.2 million tons, growth of 11.7% compared to the period from January to October last year). The performance signals the prospect that Porto will surpass the best annual mark in history – 147 million tons in 2021 – one month before the end of 2022.
October surpassed the same month of last year by 34.5%, mainly due to shipments, which advanced 48.1%, totaling 10.5 million tons. Emphasis on agribusiness loads, such as the soy complex, which doubled the movement, with an increase of 106.8%, to 1.5 million tons; sugar (39.3%, to 2.3 million tons); and corn (130.6%, to 2.5 million tons). Pulp also recorded a strong performance, with an advance of 69.4%, to 863.7 thousand tons. Landings, on the other hand, grew 8.1% in the month, reaching 3.9 million tons.
Container handling, which represents more than 30% of the total in tons, also set new records. In October, 452 thousand TEU (standard measure equivalent to a 20-foot container), an increase of 9.5% compared to October 2021 (413 thousand TEU). In the accumulated result for the year, 4.2 million TEU, up 5.4% compared to the same period last year (4 million TEU).
The number of moorings in the month rose 10.4% compared to October last year: 434 compared to 393, noting that there were two moorings of ships measuring 347 meters in length, the largest to visit the Port. In the accumulated result for the year, there were 4,333 dockings (7.3% increase compared to 2021, when there were 4,039).

Santos' accumulated participation in the Brazilian trade chain was 29.1%, reaching the mark of 148.3 billion US$ FOB. Of this volume, 23.3% were traded with China (40.6 billion US$ FOB).
