Puma Energy Launches Solar Energy Program In Puerto Rico

Puma Energy release

Puma Energy today announced plans to launch a joint venture with PASH Global to install solar power at up to 200 of its retail stations in Puerto Rico. The project is part of Puma Energy's commitment to powering more of its operations through renewable energy. Puma Energy also confirmed that its solar project at its Bayamon Terminal will go live in the next few weeks.

The projects will use the high solar potential of Puerto Rico, a country that currently that already generates around 2.3% of its power through renewable energy. The energy regulators have committed to renewable energy, and this project will be a significant contributor to solar power generation in the country. The Bayamon terminal project is expected go live in April, and the first two of the 200 projects at Puma’s retail sites are already powering retail operations.

This effort is a considerable step to transform the renewable energy landscape in Puerto Rico. The Bayamon Terminal demonstrates Puma Energy's commercial and industrial customers that they too can benefit both financially and in terms of greenhouse gas savings by working with the company to install similar schemes.

The 1,252 kW project at the Bayamon terminal will reduce carbon dioxide by 1,408 MT. The retail station projects will see approximately 20,500 photovoltaic (PV) panels installed across 200 sites. This will generate an estimated 30,000MWh of renewable electricity per annum and provide over 27,700MT in Greenhouse Gas savings. Once complete, Puma Energy's solar projects will continue to scale and be expanded to other retail sites across Puerto Rico.

Mario Sierra, General Manager of Puerto Rico at Puma Energy, comments: "These projects demonstrate Puma Energy's commitment to delivering lower carbon, renewable energy solutions and energizing the communities that we serve. We know our customers expect us to do everything we can to reduce our carbon footprint. These projects will have a lasting positive impact and deliver significant amounts of clean energy. It is great that we can use our industry expertise and our sites to benefit communities across Puerto Rico in their desire to make a meaningful contribution to the fight against climate change using the power of the sun."
