Rio Grande do Sul publishes tender notice for prison PPP
Brazil’s Rio Grande do Sul state published the tender notice for a public-private partnership to build and operate a prison in Erechim municipality, with an estimated investment of 150mn reais (US$28mn).
The concession contract will be offered via an auction on September 15 at the São Paulo stock exchange. The winner will be the company that submits the bid with the lowest cost for the prison’s construction, maintenance and operational support.
The concession was structured with the support of state-run development bank BNDES.
The prison complex will have two units that can host 1,200 inmates when it is fully operational, BNDES said in a statement.

The prison project is one of several PPPs, concessions and privatizations planned by the state government for the second half of this year.
It plans to advance with privatizations of energy generation company CEEE-G and state-run water utility Corsan, as well as offering concessions for highways and natural parks.
"All of these projects combined will generate investments of more than 16bn reais in the state," Artur Lemos Júnior, the state’s chief of staff, told BNamericas.
