Roundup: Cantv, Osiptel, Cybercafes
Venezuelan state-run telco Cantv has distributed 12,662 digital TV decodifiers in several states across the country, the company said in a statement.
Decodifiers were distributed in capital Caracas as well as in Carabobo, Aragua, Anzoátegui, Bolívar and Lara states.
In August, the government of Venezuela launched the second phase of the deployment of digital TV infrastructure, Cantv said in a statement.
The second phase of the project stipulates the deployment of nine stations for the provision of terrestrial digital TV services.
An earthquake measuring 5.8 that hit central Peru on Monday (Nov 25) caused congestion in mobile and fixed communications in the country's Lima and Ica departments, telecoms services regulator Osiptel reported.
The regulator also informed that the congestion was resolved during the day.
The regulator urged the population to use SMS and other messaging services to avoid congestion of networks in the event of an earthquake.
Ecuador ended October with 2,348 registered cybercafes, local telecoms watchdog Supertel reported.
The provinces with the highest numbers of cybercafes were Pichincha and Guayas with 760 and 427, respectively.
