Roundup: Software AG, Microsoft summit, open source software, NGO IT adoption

German applications developer Software AG has named Damián Matta as the head of sales for Argentina, the firm said in a statement. Matta previously worked in the Argentine divisions of IT firms Oracle (Nasdaq: ORCL) and Novell (Nasdaq: NOVL). Matta has a master's degree in information systems from Argentina's Universidad de Belgrano. *** Argentine President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner has inaugurated Microsoft's (Nasdaq: MSFT) fifth annual Latin American Faculty Summit, Microsoft said in a statement. More than 200 academic, government and industry research leaders from 15 regional countries are attending the event, which aims to promote interaction between computer scientists and other sectors, including education. The event is being held in Buenos Aires. *** Venezuela's foreign relations ministry has organized a conference on open source software in Costa Rica, Venezuela's government-run IT center CNTI said in a statement. The conference, which took place on Thursday, was held at IT institute Centro de Informática de Costa Rica and moderated by Venezuelan researcher José Aguilar Castro. The Venezuelan embassy in Costa Rica also helped organize the event. *** The Brazilian unit of Microsoft (Nasdaq: MSFT) has released an IT adoption guide tailored for NGOs, online news source S2 Comunicação Integrada reported. The guide, which was released at a conference on digital inclusion and sustainability, is aimed at increasing IT use by non-profit organizations in spite of their limited resources.
