SMBC Promotes Key Leaders of Global Structured Finance for the Americas
Press Release by SMBC
SMBC, a member of SMBC Group, today announced the promotions of three executives of the Bank’s Global Structured Finance Group in the Americas business, including Luis Fernando Perdigón and David González for Latin America, and Juan (JC) Kreutz for North America. All promotions are effective July 1.
Luis Fernando was promoted to Head of Latin America and General Manager. In his new role, Luis Fernando will oversee the Bank’s business across the region, including Corporate Finance and Project Finance, and continue to support the Bank’s platform in the region, including Debt Capital Markets, Investment Banking, Derivatives, and Syndications, among other areas. The Bank’s markets in this region include Brazil, Mexico, Chile, Peru, Colombia, and Panama.
Since joining SMBC in 2007, Luis Fernando has served in various roles. He most recently led the Project Finance team for Latin America, focusing on structuring and execution of complex transactions in the power, infrastructure, petrochemicals, oil & gas, and natural resources industries.
David González was promoted to Head of Project Finance for Latin America. He will oversee all project finance activities in Latin America and the Caribbean, including financial advisory, structuring, and lending for the three project finance sectors: Power and Renewables, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure and Telecom.
David joined SMBC in August 2013 and brought with him extensive experience in project finance. In his prior position, David led the Infrastructure and Telecom project finance practice in Latin America. He was responsible for advising and lending to projects in the transportation space (including ports, airports, toll roads, rail, metros, buses, etc.); social (including schools, hospitals, government facilities, etc.); water (wastewater, desalination, irrigation, aqueducts, etc.); and telecom (data centers, fiber optics, cell towers, etc.).
Juan (JC) Kreutz was promoted to General Manager for North America Project Finance and will continue to be responsible for Project Finance in the North America region. Previously, he was Managing Director and Head of North America Project Finance and managed all aspects of Project Finance for the North America business.
Juan joined SMBC in 2014 as Head of the Natural Resources Project Finance Group and then was promoted to Managing Director/Head of North America Project Finance in 2016, overseeing all project finance and advisory for power, infrastructure, and natural resources. In addition, he also oversees the U.S. Private Placement and Municipal Finance Groups.
Carl Adams, Executive Officer & Deputy Head, SMBC Americas Division, said, “Luis Fernando, David and Juan have made tremendous contributions to the growth and success of the Bank’s Latin America and Project Finance business. With their strong leadership, and teams to support them, SMBC will continue to significantly expand its platform in Americas.”
