Spain’s Red Eléctrica secures Peru power transmission concession

Peru’s energy and mines ministry has granted Transmisora Eléctrica del Sur 4 (Tesur 4) a definitive concession for the 220 kV Tintaya-Azángaro transmission line.

Tesur 4, controlled by Madrid-based Red Eléctrica, requested the concession for the 128km link last December.

The ministry’s power director is now authorized to sign the concession contract with the company.

Tesur 4 signed a 30-year concession contract for Tintaya-Azángaro in February 2018 after winning the project in November 2017.

Information from energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin shows that the infrastructure is 97% complete and that commercial operations are expected to begin in early 2023.

The works span the regions of Cusco and Puno and include the expansion of the Tintaya Nueva and Azángaro Nueva (Pumiri) substations.

Red Eléctrica operates in Peru through Red Eléctrica del Sur (Redesur), a subsidiary of Redinter, formerly known as Red Eléctrica Internacional. The Spanish group manages 1,686km of lines in the south of the Andean country.
