The firms that will rebuild Santiago’s metro

Santiago’s metro system will be rebuilt by firms that had contracts with subway operator Metro de Santiago in the past.
This decision comes as the operator launched a quick tender instead of a regular one to speed up the repairs of the stations that were damaged during the protests that started in October.
“The most damaged stations went to the bigger construction groups,” a Metro de Santiago spokesperson told BNamericas.
These groups include Besalco, OHL, Arrigoni, Echeverría Izquierdo-Obras Subterráneas, and Ferrovial.
Asked about which firms will repair which stations, the spokesperson replied “we don’t plan on making that information public.”
During riots, several stations were the target of arson attacks, and the network isn’t expected to return to full operations until late 2020.
Stations that sustained most damage, including destroyed rails, will require new electricity networks. Most are on line No. 4 (Trinidad, San José de la Estrella, Los Quillayes, Elisa Correa and Protectora de la Infancia) and line No. 5 (Laguna Sur and Las Parcelas).
