Tigo launches 3G services

Mobile operator Telecel, operating under the Tigo brand in Bolivia, has launched 3G services in the country, local newspaper La Razón reported. Among the new services the operator will offer are videocall, high-speed mobile broadband as well as music and video download, according to the report. At the end of the second quarter of this year, Tigo had 1.19mn mobile telephony subscribers, up 29% compared to the same time in 2007. The operator recently announced plans to rapidly migrate its existing TDMA base to GSM technology in Bolivia. Telecel is a unit of European mobile group Millicom Cellular International (Nasdaq: MICC).
