Salvador, November 28, 2022 – After hefty investments in network infrastructure, TIM anticipated the goal of covering 100% of Bahia's municipalities with 4G technology. As of now, all 417 cities in Bahia have fourth-generation technology. With this, the operator accelerated the total coverage of the State, which was scheduled for 2023, and provides Bahians with broader access to technology, with more quality and digital inclusion.

“Bahia is a very strategic state for TIM and being able to cover all municipalities was a huge challenge, due to the continental dimensions of the region, with 564 thousand km². But bringing connectivity to the population of the most distant cities is a source of pride for the company. It is the opportunity to connect more and more people and further boost the state's economy”, says Bruno Talento, Sales Director at TIM Nordeste.

To expand the network in the region, one of the company's initiatives was the Sky Coverage project. Since last year, the company has been using energy from the sun and artificial satellite coverage to make the project to place cell towers in remote places viable, even where there is no physical infrastructure for electricity or telecommunications.

In the Northeast, today, the operator has 176 districts served with Sky Coverage project sites, 125 of which are in Bahia alone. It is also worth mentioning that the company has participated, since 2019, in the Fala Bahia program, in partnership with the Government of Bahia, and, through it, another 53 districts have already been contemplated, which made it possible to benefit about 178 thousand inhabitants with voice services and data. It is also important to highlight that rural coverage covers areas with potential for future partnerships with large rural producers, with a focus on Agrobusiness.

“Our goal is to generate more connections and social inclusion. Sky Coverage fulfills this function, as it takes the 4G signal to remote areas and manages to connect more and more people from Bahia. The goal is to bring fourth-generation coverage and integrate districts, villages, roads and tourist spots that today do not have any mobile connectivity”, explains Talento.

And, to continue the 4G expansion, the operator has just launched a new project called Roteiro Black that will connect the entire Linha Verde, from the beginning to Aracaju, in Sergipe. For this initiative, 12 new antennas will be installed by 2023.

Another innovation made by the operator was the activation of 73 biosites in Bahia. The equipment, developed and patented by the operator, allows the expansion of voice and data coverage, in a sustainable way and without impacting the urban landscape due to the simplicity of the structure and ease of installation. In July, TIM activated the first biosite in Brazil made with carbon fiber and glass, located near Arena Fonte Nova and Dique Tororó. The antenna already has equipment inside to activate the 5G signal. The antennas can also be used to install public lighting and security cameras.

With the arrival of 5G Standalone in Salvador, the company has recently entered a new phase of growth, which immediately reflects in a better experience both for current TIM customers and for users coming from Oi, with an increase in speed due to the incorporation of ' additional spectrum' within the migration process, and increased mobile coverage.

In the state, Oi's customers with area codes 73 and 75 are already able to use TIM's infrastructure. As a result, the company now has a market share of 26.1% of the Bahia market, which is equivalent to more than 4 million active lines.
